Definizione

When a wine is at once rich and deep, yet balanced and showing finesse. A balance combining all flavour and taste components in harmony. 1

Nota

The complexity of a wine is affected by many factors, of which some are outside of human control (i.e. soil characteristics, geographical location, variation of seasons and weather, etc.) and some are easily controlled (grape variety selection, yield control, type of yeast used in fermentation, barrel aging, etc.). While the source of complexity is in the physical composition and elements of the wine, it is not the mere presence of these myriad aromas and textural aspects that define the level of complexity. Complexity engages the mind. It is the effect of how the various elements, harmoniously knit together, impart a sensation that is intriguing and provocative. 2

Contesto

Perceived complexity in wine appeared for consumers to be significantly correlated to the perception of persistence, power and number of aromas. 3
