v. [Inflected form of the transitive verb ‘to bung’]

Definizione

To close with or as if with a cork or stopper. 1

Nota

[Bunging derives from the use of a ‘bung’]. A bung is an apparatus used to seal a container, such as a bottle or a barrel. Unlike a lid which encloses a container from the outside displacing the inner volume, a bung is a partially inserted inside the container to act like a seal. The most common every-day example of a bung is the cork of the bottle. Others bungs, particularly those used in chemical barrels are made of and are screwed into place via threading. 2

Contesto

There is much more making Madeira wine than just pressing the grapes, and filling and bunging the barrel. In fact, it is only once the fermentation process that the real work begins. 3
