Etimologia

The adjective mouldy comes from mould, a word that appeared in the early 15th Century which probably derives from moulde, past participle of moulen, a word of the early 13th Century that meant “to grow mouldy”. This word possibly derived from the Proto-Germanic mulk that meant “slipperiness, wetness”. Or it might have evolved from (or been influenced by) Old English molde "loose earth". (4)
