v. (French)

Definizione

A term describing opening a bottle of wine so it can come into contact with the air and reach room temperature. From the French meaning “Allow to breathe”. 1

Nota

A derivative of the French word chambre ("room"), the term chambrer means "bring to room temperature." It's associated with the older traditional environment where cellars were very cool (55°F or less) and dining rooms were frequently about 60°F. Bringing to room temperature meant simply taking the bottle of wine out of the wine cellar several hours before serving so that it could warm to this room temperature. 2
